Toward Freedom in Colombia for Life and the People

Maria Olaya and Cailey Campbell write in Rabble:

From July 22 to 28, the Nasa indigenous people of Northern Cauca, Colombia, led a national mobilization to propose a transformation in the country’s politics. Their proposals included national economic development instead of the U.S.-Free Trade Agreement, a negotiated, political solution to the armed conflict instead of President Uribe’s war policy, and a humanitarian agreement instead of impunity for the paramilitaries.

This interview with Manuel Rozental provides some of the character of the mobilization as well as some reflections on the implications of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s visit to Bogotá the week previous. Audio of both interviews as well as a transcription of the interview with Manuel are available at en-camino.org.
